Public Events
Free Public Lectures, Community Educational Events and Lifelong Learning at An-Najah National University
An-Najah National University (ANNU) regularly organizes and hosts public lectures, community educational events, workshops, conferences, cultural activities, exhibitions, sports programmes and public awareness initiatives at its university facilities. These activities are open to the general public and connect academic knowledge with community needs, promote lifelong learning, and strengthen the University’s connection with society by giving people beyond the enrolled student population the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and engage with research, culture and innovation.
The University’s public events address scientific, cultural, environmental, legal, health, social and economic issues that benefit both the academic community and wider society. Participants include community members, school pupils and their families, teachers, professionals, civil society organizations, public institutions, businesses, diplomatic missions and other external visitors.
University faculties, centres and administrative units organize these activities independently and in partnership with schools, government institutions, community organizations, professional associations and international partners.

An-Najah National University confirms that the public lectures and community educational events presented on this page are free to attend. Members of the public, including people who are not enrolled at the University, can participate in events announced as open to the public. Events are announced in advance through the University website, An-Najah News, faculty and centre pages and the University’s official social media channels. Some activities serve particular community groups, such as school pupils, teachers, families or professionals. Where registration, capacity limits or relevant professional qualifications apply, these conditions are communicated through the event announcement or organizing unit. The following examples document events hosted during 2025. They demonstrate the University’s role in bringing educational, cultural and scientific activities to external audiences. Later activities are presented separately to show continuity. |
Public Lectures and Community Educational Events – Examples in 2025
1 Mamluk Jerusalem: Public Lecture, Book Launch and Architectural Exhibition
The University hosted an educational event introducing the book Mamluk Jerusalem: History and Architecture. The programme combined a public lecture with an architectural exhibition featuring rare maps, photographs and drawings illustrating the distinctive features of Jerusalem’s Mamluk heritage, followed by a guided tour. The keynote public lecture, “Mamluk Architecture in Jerusalem: Features and Characteristics”, was delivered by Dr. Haithem Al-Ratrout. Guests from the Palestinian Museum presented the museum’s current and future programmes. Faculty members, students and people interested in Palestinian heritage attended, and the event closed with an open discussion. 2 TEDI-Najah Expo 2025: Public Exhibition of Knowledge, Innovation and Enterprise
TEDI-Najah Expo is the largest event of its kind organized by the University. The 2025 edition brought together more than 50 Palestinian companies and national institutions and over 150 graduation projects from across the University’s faculties. Visitors explored ideas and practical solutions in health, technology, development and innovation. The opening, held under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Rami Al-Hamdallah, was attended by the University President, the Governor of Nablus, representatives of official and national institutions, Palestinian companies and, as the published report records, “a large audience of students and community members”. The exhibition provided a community setting for learning about research applications, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies. 3 Educational Theatre Promoting Disability Inclusion: “Ziad Above Seagull Mountain”
The University hosted the performance Ziad Above Seagull Mountain, presented by the Popular Theatre in Ramallah in partnership with the University’s Palestinian Childhood Institute, Art from the Heart and Dalia Association, as part of the awareness month marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December). The published report documents attendance by a large audience of school pupils and their families. Through an accessible theatrical narrative about Ziad, born without wings in the city of seagulls, the event encouraged acceptance of difference and raised awareness of the inclusion and equal rights of people with disabilities, including accessible schools, facilities and public spaces. 4 Palestine Science and Technology Fair — ISEF 2025
The University hosted the Palestine Science and Technology Fair in cooperation with the Directorate of Education in Nablus. The fair featured 41 school projects in medical, engineering, technology, physics, chemistry and behavioural education fields, supervised by Dr. Muna Hajj Yahya of the Faculty of Science. On the first day, University faculty evaluated the projects for innovation, scientific impact and technical execution. The second day was dedicated to an open exhibition, giving parents, pupils, teachers and other visitors the opportunity to explore the projects first-hand and interact with the young researchers, connecting school education with the University’s scientific environment. The University hosted a two-day international conference examining the realities of children’s rights during wars and crises, under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Rami Al-Hamdallah. The programme brought together academic expertise and contributions from institutions and practitioners concerned with childhood, protection and human rights, and addressed psychological and legal protection mechanisms and international experience.
An accompanying exhibition extended the educational programme through visual engagement with the experiences of children affected by conflict.

6. University Guidance Day for Secondary-School Pupils: “Towards a Promising Future”

The University hosted the first of the national guidance days for secondary-school pupils, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and with the participation of all Palestinian universities. Approximately 2,000 pupils from the Nablus and Tubas directorates attended.
The event supported learners outside the University by helping them understand higher education opportunities and make informed choices about study programmes that match their ambitions and the needs of the labour market.

7 Joint Engineering Exhibition for School and University Audiences

The Faculty of Engineering and the Deanship of Student Affairs hosted a joint exhibition organized by the architectural (AIAS) and civil engineering (ASCE) student societies, highlighting architecture, urban planning, civil, building and geomatics engineering.
Secondary-school visitors had opportunities to explore engineering fields and educational demonstrations, including three-dimensional printing and augmented reality. The activity helped connect school learners with practical applications of university knowledge.

8 Language Open Day
The Language Resources Center organized activities across eleven language and cultural stations: French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Korean, Japanese, English, Arabic, German, Turkish and Sign Language. Games, competitions, educational activities and cultural displays of traditions, customs and cuisine promoted language learning and intercultural understanding. The report records participation by University audiences and by representatives of diplomatic and international organizations, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, the Deputy Ambassador of Japan, a representative of the French Consulate General in Jerusalem and the Director of the Russian House in Bethlehem. The Language Resources Center organized a Russian language and culture day with the official participation of the Representative Office of the Russian Federation to the State of Palestine and the Russian House in Bethlehem.
The programme included cultural presentations in Russian, traditional food, folk games and interactive displays, encouraging learning through direct cultural exchange.

10 Korean Culture Day
The Language Resources Center organized Korean Culture Day with the KOICA Alumni Association in Palestine (KAAP) and support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in the presence of Mr. Young Kol Jo, Representative of the Republic of Korea to Palestine. Interactive stations introduced Korean language and culture through writing, drawing, games, food, music and virtual reality. The programme also supported cultural and educational exchange with Korean partners.
