On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs, inaugurated the sixth cycle of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) exhibition at An-Najah National University. The event highlighted distinguished architectural projects by students, aligning with the university’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education, sustainable cities, clean energy, and fostering partnerships for global impact.


The exhibition, held at the Faculty of Engineering, was officially opened by Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology; Dr. Asaad Al-Arandi, AIAS Supervisor; Mr. Iyad Al-Aqraa, Director of Student Affairs; and Ms. Kinda Hawash, President of the AIAS Branch at An-Najah University. Faculty members, academic staff, and representatives from the Departments of Architectural and Civil Engineering were also in attendance.

The showcased projects demonstrated innovative approaches to sustainable architecture, including designs for modern fuel and clean energy stations, proposals for temporary structures and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, and luxurious yet energy-efficient residential villas. These projects focused on utilizing renewable energy, recycling resources, and addressing geographic and climatic challenges while adhering to sustainability principles.

Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein emphasized the global recognition and achievements of An-Najah’s AIAS Branch, noting the consistent success of architecture students who have earned international acclaim. He commended the exhibition for reflecting the university’s high academic standards and for showcasing students’ ability to deliver innovative, high-quality designs that integrate clean energy and sustainable resource use.

Dr. Asaad Al-Arandi highlighted the department’s commitment to connecting students’ learning experiences with local realities, encouraging them to seek creative, sustainable solutions in their designs. He praised the students’ dedication to integrating SDGs into their projects, which reflect the vision of the university’s architecture program.

Mr. Iyad Al-Aqraa lauded the efforts of the students and the AIAS Branch in organizing activities that contribute to achieving the SDGs. He highlighted the exceptional quality of the projects and noted the university’s role in fostering innovative solutions, including reusing materials left behind by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He further emphasized the significant role of the Deanship of Student Affairs in supporting student-led scientific and cultural initiatives.

Ms. Kinda Hawash expressed pride in the students’ achievements and described the exhibition as the culmination of months of hard work. She emphasized the importance of such events in introducing new students to the association and inspiring them to excel academically. She thanked the administrative team, faculty, and the deanship for their support in ensuring the event’s success.

The AIAS exhibition underscores An-Najah National University’s dedication to empowering students, promoting sustainability, and fostering innovation. As the first activity in a series of events marking the sixth year of the AIAS Branch, the exhibition exemplifies the university’s commitment to excellence in education and its role in preparing future architects to address global challenges.
