The Sustainable Development Association, affiliated with the Deanship of Student Affairs at An-Najah National University, recently organized a specialized workshop aimed at promoting environmental awareness and building youth capacities in the green sector. The workshop was held in collaboration with the Green Opportunities Platform, under the supervision of Eng. Saed Hanani, Founder and CEO of the platform, in line with the University’s vision of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly quality education and partnerships for achieving the goals.

Held at the training hall in the University Library on the New Campus, the workshop aimed to raise environmental awareness among students, highlight the role of youth in climate action, and develop their skills in identifying and applying for green opportunities. It also sought to empower participants to launch their own environmental initiatives as part of an ongoing series of capacity-building activities.

The training session was attended by Mr. Iyad Al-Aqra, Director of Student Affairs; Mr. Basheer Zamel, Supervisor of the Sustainable Development Association; Eng. Hanani, Founder and CEO of the Green Opportunities Platform; and Lubna Houshiya, President of the Sustainable Development Association, along with members of the administrative team, representatives of partner institutions, and a large number of interested students. The workshop introduced participants to various fields related to environmental work, as well as international opportunities available for Palestinian youth.

In his remarks, Mr. Al-Aqra reaffirmed the University’s continuous support for initiatives that enhance students’ capacities and enable them to play an active role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized the University’s commitment to supporting student activities, particularly those led by student associations.

He also commended the efforts of the Green Opportunities Platform and the Sustainable Development Association, highlighting the role of the Deanship of Student Affairs and its various units in supporting and implementing impactful student initiatives.

For his part, Mr. Zamel noted that the Sustainable Development Association continues to lead awareness efforts in areas related to sustainable development, while working to expand partnerships and broaden the scope of its activities in the coming period.

This workshop reflects An-Najah University’s commitment to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly quality education and partnerships—by providing a supportive environment that encourages innovation, initiative, and community engagement.
