Zajel Youth Exchange Program launched its Information Unit based at the Public Relations Department of An-Najah National University, Nablus-Palestine.
The Palestine Information Unit seeks to promote Palestinian culture, heritage, history and news. It seeks to give a voice to those usually overlooked by a media obsessed with conflict. This is the Palestine behind the news stories. The mission is to open the door to Palestine to all those who are interested in her past, present and future. Zajel seeks to be a resource for those with a first-hand perspective on Palestine.
The site includes links such as the daily Palestinian news, information about the Palestinian factions and their social association, a page about the Israeli violations to the Palestinian rights as well as the reports of the right to education, the site included materials about the modern history of Palestine, maps, polls, statistics and the United Nations resolutions since the 1946. Another page was designed to include information on the academic researches, sports and the academic news of An-Najah National University.
Another link was launched to promote the Palestinian heritage; Arts, Embroideries, Currency, Poetry, Short stories, Proverbs and Music. Such mission attempts to show the Palestinian roots and legacy.
In order to encourage dialogue between both Palestinians and international visitors of the site, Zajel included a forum link that enables people from around the globe to discuss and share their points of views and perspectives.
A gallery full of selected photos was also launched on the site of zajel where children’s paintings were published; the children's perspective is encapsulated powerfully in this collection of drawings, expressing despair, hope, fear and lofty aspirations.
The gallery contains categories of the Palestinian currency, photos of the history of Palestine, flowers of Palestine, paintings, Palestinian cities and arts museum. Highly recommended links of the Palestinians NGOs was published too, as well as links of the Palestinian media, arts, education, government, politics, culture and human rights organizations.
By launching this site, Zajel tries to clear the image of the Palestinian people and pass the message about the current situation in the occupied territories to the international community, besides removing the stereotypes about Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom and independence.
