In its efforts to protect consumers’ health and prevent poisoning, the Poison Control and Drug Information Center (PCDIC) conducted a workshop involving representatives from several local ministries to find methods to reach this goal.  The workshop was organized and launched by Dr. Ansam Sawaha, director of PCDIC.

Dr. Sawalha spoke about the importance of protecting the Palestinian consumers especially after the incidence of accidental poisoning have increased in Palestine. She emphasized the importance of clarity and honesty of the information provided at the product label, in addition to conducting some modifications to the product label of different chemicals especially those used for cleaning and the pesticides.Such changes are very much needed to speed up the management of patients poisoned with the previously mentioned chemicals.  Among the needed modifications, Dr. Sawalha requested the addition of the toll-free number for the PCDIC which is 1800-500-000 and a phone number for the manufacturer and/or importer.

Participants emphasized the importance of the initiative and regulatory rule played by the different agency at different local ministries, all aiming to provide better services and health for the Palestinian citizens.  Participants also indicated the importance of collaboration with the PCDIC and implementing the concluding remarks of the workshop. They were also grateful to the rule played by An-Najah in serving the community through its different facilities. The workshop also included investigating aspects of collaboration between the PCDIC and the different organizations involved in health.
