Mr. David Craig, World Bank Country Director for the West Bank and Gaza, visited the University on the 20th of March, 2007. Mr. Craig was accompanied by a delegation consisting of Ms. Nabila Assaf, Aid Management Specialist, Ms. Rana Al-Muthaffar, Private Sector Specialist, and Ms. Mary Koussa, Public Relations Coordinator. The delegation was received by the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, who briefed his guests on the history, developments and progress of the university. He also briefed them on the current situation and its impact on the right to education, which has been severely affected by Israeli occupation. Another meeting was organized which included Mr. Craig, his delegation, Prof. Maher Natsheh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Reyad Abdul Kareem, the President's Assistant of Planning and Development, Dr. Sulaiman Khalil, Coordinator of the Scientific Centers, Dr. Bashar Sadder, Coordinator of the Quality Assurance Unit and the Dean of the Faculty of Optometry. A detailed discussion took place in regards to the situation with An-Najah`s Faculties, including their ambitions and aspirations. The delegation also met with Mr. Hani Jaber, the Director of the Library, who showed his guests the library's collection of World Bank publications and the computers that were donated by the World Bank. He explained that the usage of these computers helps to offer better services to the university community. Prof. Hamdallah accompanied his guests on a tour of the newly established university campus. They visited Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Theatre, The Faculty of Optometry and the Fine Arts faculty. Another meeting was organized with the Dean of the Business Administration, Tareq Al-Haj, the Dean of Law, Dr. Ahmad Al-Khaldi, Dean of Graduate Studies, Muhammad Abu Jafar, and Dr. Hassan Arafat from the Engineering Faculty, who briefed the guests on the latest project in cooperation with the World Bank, the Development of an Effective Process for Evaluation of Faculty Teaching Performance Leading to Enhanced Teaching Methodologies. Dr. Al-Khaldi spoke about recent efforts in regards to developing the Faculty of Law and briefed the guests with the latest developments concerning the Palestinian constitution. Dr. Al-Haj spoke about the importance of training the students of the Business Administration Faculty in order to provide them with the needed skills that will enable them to be integrated in the market. Dr. Nabil Alawi, Director of the Public Relations Department, said that this visit is one of many important visits for the development of the relationship between the university and the World Bank. He expressed his gratitude to Mr. Craig and his delegation and hopes that this visit will be followed by future visits that will assist the university in various ways. Mr. David Craig, World Bank Director, expressed his impression towards the professionalism of the university management team, its commitment to compete globally, and its dedication to the community of Nablus.
