Wasef Khatib,19 years old and, is a student at An-Najah National University. He belongs to a poor family and is one of five children.
Wasef tells his story in his own words:
“I visit my family once a week. I used to go to Jenin with my friends and come back after the weekend. We used to go through the bypass roads of Asira village and we often climbed the mountains and crossed the street of Asira. This time though we were surprised by an Israeli military jeep, the Israeli soldiers ordered us to be checked one by one.”
“I was the first one to be checked, he asked me to collect the rest of the ID cards, as well as the bags, which were checked by the Israeli occupation soldiers. We were told to sit beside one of the houses of Asira village. One of the soldiers was shooting at us randomly without any reason, so we ran in order to escape. I felt like I had vertigo in my head and some pain in my foot.”
“A soldier offered first aid to me. I was moved to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus where I got medical treatment. A bullet was found in my foot, and luckily it was removed.”
“Now, I hope that I will leave the hospital as soon as possible in order to rejoin my classes.”
