The French Department's student Ahmad Khudair was one of 40 students from around the world – including three other students from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip – who took part in a study trip to South Africa. The purpose of the trip, organised under the patronage of the Representative of South Africa, was the exchange of scientific and cultural experiences between students from different parts of the world.
The students gathered at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, where they took part in a workshop on the history and culture of South Africans and the South Africans' struggle to gain freedom from the apartheid system. Other topics covered included those relating to the spheres of ecology and geology. The delegates also attended diamond factories and health care organisations.
