In a democratic, competitive atmosphere, seven student blocks ran for elections in the student council to elect their representatives for 2006. Twelve thousand two hundred and ninety-six students participated in the elections, out of the fourteen thousand six hundred and thirty-seven students eligible to vote, constituting to 84% of the student body. The Islamic Block won in the elections with forty seats while the Martyrs Block got thirty-four. The rest of the seats were distributed among the Al-Quds Block with two, Jama`a Islameyeh with two and the Initiative Block with one seat.
Fifty two ballet boxes were prepared for the elections. Two of them were placed in Tulkarim Campus of Khadori where the Faculties of Veterinary and Agriculture are located. The Elections Committee organized face to face debates between all blocks where each had the opportunity to promote its agenda and program. Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the University President, thanked the Elections Committee and the Deanship of Students Affairs for the efforts they made to make the elections successful; he also appreciated the democratic and open atmosphere of the elections.
