President Prof. Rami Hamdallah met in his office at the University’s Old Campus in Nablus City with Mr. John Wilkes, the Official British Government Spokesperson in the Arabic Language.  President Prof. Hamdallah stressed in the meeting the important role of the international community and its different institutions, particularly European Union and United Nations, to support the efforts to bring lasting peace and justice to the Middle East.

President Prof. Hamdallah gave an overview of the history of An-Najah National University and its various academic programs.  President Hamdallah noted that An-Najah plays an important role in bettering the lives of the Palestinian community as a whole with the implementation of several scientific and research centers.President Hamdallah also highlighted the importance of the visit to promote dialogues between peoples, and emphasized the important role of international community in supporting the higher education sector in Palestine since education is a major investment for the Palestinian people.

For his part, Mr. Wilkes said he is delighted to visit the University.  He noted that his government continues its support to Palestinian people and the peace process in the Middle East.  The meeting was attended by University’s President Assistant for International Relations, and Yasmeen Shahrur, Acting Director of the University’s Public Relations Department.After the meeting, Mr. Wilkes gave a public lecture on the British Policy in the Middle East at HRH Prince Turki Theatre in the University’s New Campus.  The lecture was extremely well attended by faculty members and students who asked a series of well informed questions on the British policy in the Middle East.
