The Palestinian Women's Union organized a ceremony to honor released prisoners and those women who still crouch behind the walls of the Israeli occupation. Governor of Nablus, His Excellency Mahmoud al-Aloul, Dr. Nabil al-Dumaidi, Vice-Principal of an-Najah University and other members of its academic and administrative committees, representatives of public and official associations, and relatives of the prisoners all attended the gathering.

Dignitaries saluted Palestinian women imprisoned in Israeli jails. Lawaheth Abed Al-Hadi, Head of the General Union of Palestinian Women, insisted on taking the plight of the prisoners at face value. Women prisoners suffer from coercive and subjugating abuse by Israelis, she said. She called on official associations and human rights organizations to intervene in order that the atrocities stop.

Governor Mahmoud Al-Aloul clarified the patriotic role of Palestinian women as citizens whilst Dr.Al-Doumaidi directed the audience's attention to the role of women in development and society. He indicated that the conditions of prisoners strangles their educational and social prospects. He presented fresh evidence concerning torture to which the Palestinian women are exposed in prison.

The Public Art Band, related to Student Affairs, participated by organizing a group of traditional songs and 'Dabka' dances. At the end of the ceremony, corselets were given to honor the released prisoners, and to the relatives of those who are still in prison.
