The ESSEC represented by its Director Prof. Jalal Dabbeek and Prof. Radwan El-Kelani, as well as some graduate and undergraduate students, participated in a workshop on Seismicity and Earthquake Engineering in the Extended Mediterranean Region. Many Arab and international institutes, as well as scientific centres participated in the workshop.
The workshop was organized and sponsored by UNESCO and USGS. and included presentations and training courses on the seismic evaluation of existing buildings and analysis of different seismic scenarios on buildings and infrastructure, by using the software program, HAZUS.
Dr. Dabbeek, presented two short training courses on the seismic vulnerability of buildings according to European macro seismic scale, to mitigate the expected seismic risk. He also spoke about the factors and measures affecting Palestinian common buildings. Dr Dabbeek emphasized the importance of students participation in such workshops.
