Many Palestinian researchers participated in the Conference on Jerusalem that was held on the 12th of December, 2006. Heads of local associations and important local officials attended the Conference on Jerusalem at An-Najah National University. This is the eighth year the university has held the conference. Christian and Muslim figures attended it in order to emphasize the importance of Jerusalem in the hearts of all Palestinians regardless of their religions.
Recommendations were brought forth concerning the condition of the city. The participants urged more support for Jerusalem and the Palestinian associations which aim to protect the heritage, culture, and the Palestinian presence there. The participants also recognized the importance of the international legitimacy of the city and of lifting the siege which currently afflicts Jerusalem.
