Two courses specialized in programmable logic control (PLC) and electrical installations concluded last week at the college. The participants, twelve technicians from the Electricians Union of Nablus, were taught in different topics related to the logical control of the machines; they were trained on the basics of electrical and electronic circuits, digital logic control, tasks of PLC, components of control systems using PLC, creation of PLC programs, language programming (STL, LDR, FCH and IL), sequence control - function chart and central control unit of PLC.
The trainees practically applied the knowledge they had received and evaluated that the course was successful, asking for more complementary courses. Mr. Ibrahim Abu Hijleh, head of the union, also pointed out the local market severely lacks professionals in this particular major concerning high-tech machinery, and asked the college to develop further advanced courses covering an even larger number of electricians and factory maintenance technicians.
A second course on residential and commercial electrical installations was offered to thirteen young electricians, considered beginners in the industry. It covered the basics of electrical installations, connection of illumination circuits, the usage of electrical switches and an introduction to radio and home TV wiring methods. This was in addition to the installation of electrical organizers and some other topics that greatly benefited trainees.
The practical part of the course was conducted at a local electrical workshop in the city, where trainees fully implemented the electrical plan of a new building. Their work impressed even their instructors, who admired the noticeable progress they were making.
It is worth mentioning that the wrapping up of these two courses coincides with the beginning of a new specialized course on pneumatic control that targets maintenance technicians of factories. All three courses are funded by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
