Commemorating the 13th Anniversary of Poet Abdul Lateef Aqel
The university’s Faculty of Arts organised a ceremony to mark the 13th anniversary of the death of Palestinian poet Abdul Lateef Aqel. The event was attended by university administrators, professors, students and friends of the poet, who was working at the university at the time of his death.
The suffering that Abdul Lateef Aqel experienced at a personal level helped form his poetic character as well as crystallise his creativity. He led a life that lacked balance after losing his father. In addition, he experienced the suffering common to all Palestinian people who have undergone banishment, expulsion, eviction, torture, land confiscation and colonisation and faced discrimination and ignorance. All those factors helped shape his attitude of resistance.
