Under the patronage of his Excellency Abdul Aziz Botaflika, President of Algeria, the Mediterranean Universities Union held its general assembly in Algeria on Dec.13th 2003. Sixty-one representatives of the Mediterranean member universities joined the assembly of the UNIMED Union.
Prof. Maher Natsheh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented An-Najah National University in this assembly. Prof Natsheh said that a discussion took place during the assembly regarding the environment, cultural heritage, distance learning, dialogue between East and West, free exchange between countries, and the possibilities of opening new centers for the study of water resources and natural disasters.
Prof Natsheh said that An-Najah National University was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the UNIMED Union, which includes ten members in its board.
The discussion also included the acceptance of the new members of the Mediterranean Universities to get full membership of the General Union in Rome.
