In cooperation with the employees’ union of the university and the Telecommunication Company, the Public Relations Department organized a two-day program for a French party that is visiting the Palestinian Territories as part of a delegation of European trade unionists.
The delegation met the university President Prof. Rami Hamdallah, who explained the situation of the university and its programs; its projects and plans.
The delegation visited the two campuses of the university, the old and the new one, and met officials of the different department including Prof.Bilal Shafi, the Head of the French Department, who explained the importance of teaching French in the University. They met students of the French Department and some local volunteers of Zajel Youth Exchange Program, who made a presentation on the promising project for exchange with European youth.
A documentary film in French about the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories was shown.
A visit was paid to the Radio Station of An-Najah, where visitors were told about the programs. They discussed with its Director Mr.Ayman Al Nimir, the possibilities of cooperation between western local radio stations and An-Najah radio.
The delegation attended the opening of Elyas Sabila exhibition by the Consul-General of France, and met two Palestinian woman activists who explained to them the Palestinian women’s struggle for equality and political participation.
Another visit was paid to the refugee camp of Balata and to a school, where visitors met the local women’s association and youth clubs, and some refugees of Balata Camp. A Swiss members of the French party said: “What we aim to do is to inform our countrymen of the situation in Nablus and of the suffering that you are now going through and to explain the problems you have with the occupation.”
