The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teachers' Training at An-Najah National University, organized an event to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) with the participation of a large number of representatives from several community institutions in Palestine on Thursday, December 9, 2021.


The event aimed to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also aimed to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

In the opening speech, Dr. Saida Affouneh, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teachers' Training, welcomed the attendees, noting that this event was organized by freshman in the Inclusive and Special Education BA Program under the supervision of Dr. Sahar Abu Shkheedim.

Dr. Affouneh pointed out that the Inclusive and Special Education BA program aims at producing specialized academic staff who can offer equal learning opportunities for learners with special needs, such as disabled and gifted in schools and the community.

The program also aims to accommodate those learners' attitudes, practices, skills and knowledge, and foster partnership with related organizations and institutes. This is to upgrade the educational level and implement an education reform strategy that the educational system becomes inclusive and available for everyone.

In his speech, Mr. Samer Aqrouq, Director of ‎Students with Disabilities Care ‎Office at An-Najah University, talked about the mission and vision of the People with Disability Care Office at the University. He stated that the office was established to make the lives of students with disability more active and integrated with the society of the University.

The event featured the play “I Am Human” presented by a group of female university students. The play was mainly about barriers to employment for people with disabilities.
