The Department of Physical Therapy at the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences at An-Najah National University organized an educational and rehabilitation activity for breast cancer patients and survivors at Basmat Hayat Association. The activity was supervised by faculty member Duaa Abu Al-Khair and conducted with the participation of her research and teaching assistants, along with fourth-year students from the Department.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness of the important role of physical therapy in the recovery and rehabilitation journey of breast cancer patients. It sought to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to restore physical function, improve mobility, and enhance quality of life following mastectomy procedures or during various stages of cancer treatment.

The activity featured three main components. The first focused on increasing awareness of the role of physical therapy in cancer care and its contribution to improving physical function and reducing treatment- and surgery-related complications. Participants also took part in therapeutic exercise sessions and practical demonstrations, accompanied by specialized guidance on performing exercises safely and effectively according to their individual needs.

The second component included a variety of interactive activities and recreational games designed to promote psychological well-being, encourage positive social interaction, and support physical activity in a welcoming and supportive environment. These activities contributed to boosting participants’ morale and fostering engagement among attendees.

The event concluded with a recognition ceremony honoring Basmat Hayat Association for its humanitarian and community efforts in supporting cancer patients and survivors. During the ceremony, a commemorative shield was presented to Dr. Ameera Al-Hindi in appreciation of her continued dedication to supporting cancer patients and strengthening psychosocial support services within the community.

The organizers emphasized the importance of sustaining community partnerships that contribute to supporting patients and survivors while reinforcing the role of physical therapy as an essential component of comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation services.

This activity reflects the Department’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and to promoting evidence-based rehabilitation practices that enhance patients’ well-being and support their recovery journey.
