An-Najah National University Concludes Consultative Workshop to Promote Climate Change Initiatives and Institutionalize Sustainable Action
An-Najah National University concluded the activities of the specialized consultative workshop entitled Consultative Workshop to Promote Climate Change Initiatives at An-Najah National University.
The event was organized by the Sustainable Adaptation to Global Change in the Middle East (SAGE) project, with wide participation from the university's leadership, academic and administrative staff, and scientific centers.
Held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the workshop featured intensive practical discussions and the formulation of high-priority initiatives aimed at building an applied climate initiative package aligned with national priorities and the university’s institutional capacity.
The workshop was opened by Dr. Prof. Munqez Shtaya, Director of Scientific Centers, who emphasized the university's commitment to supporting scientific and community initiatives that foster sustainability. He stressed the importance of translating recommendations and research into actionable plans that contribute to environmental protection and address climate challenges in Palestine.
For his part, Dr. Anan Jayyousi, Director of the Energy, Water, and Food Security Research Center, outlined the vision, mission, and achievements of the SAGE project in advancing scientific research and climate change adaptation. He emphasized that the workshop focused on generating scalable scientific and practical solutions in collaboration with various faculties and sectors.
The event featured evaluative presentations and intensive lectures delivered by a select panel of university experts and specialists. These sessions addressed climate impacts, adaptation and mitigation options, and proposed initiatives across several vital themes.
The workshop concluded with an extensive discussion session moderated by Dr. Anan Jayyousi, during which the proposed initiatives were prioritized, and concrete next steps were established to develop concept notes, mobilize resources and partnerships, and implement these initiatives on the ground.
It is worth noting that the SAGE project is a regional center of excellence dedicated to sustainable adaptation to global changes. It is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and managed by Anan-Najah National University in coordination and partnership with the University of Tübingen, Germany.
