Weather Station
Established in 2004 under the supervision of the Department of Geography, the An-Najah National University Weather Station plays a vital role in supporting climate change research, education, and sustainable development. The station continuously measures key meteorological variables such as maximum, minimum, and mean air temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and—during certain periods—soil temperature and evaporation rates, using advanced scientific instruments like rain gauges, barometers, anemometers, pyranometers, and thermohydrometers.
As a primary source of climate data for Nablus Governorate, the station provides valuable information for academic research, environmental and energy studies, and monitoring local climate variations. It also serves as a field laboratory for geography, environment, and development students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Through this work, the station enhances scientific literacy, supports evidence-based environmental planning, and contributes to national efforts to address the impacts of climate change in Palestine.
