Vice President for Innovation and AI
Dr. Anas Toma is the Vice President for Innovation and Artificial Intelligence at An-Najah National University. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany (2015), an M.Sc. from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST, 2008), and a B.Sc. from An-Najah National University in Palestine (2005).
Dr. Toma has extensive academic and research experience, including work as a teaching and research assistant and a lecturer at An-Najah National University, and as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Dortmund University in Germany (2016–2019). He previously served as Director of the Artificial Intelligence Unit and Program Coordinator for the M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence at An-Najah, and he also contributed to founding and developing many AI academic programs and initiatives.
His research focuses on computer vision, machine learning, and AI-driven systems, with applications in healthcare, media, education, and smart systems. His work has received multiple awards, including Second Place Regional Winner in the OpenCV AI Competition (2021) and Best Paper Award at BIOSIGNALS 2018 for research on deep neural networks in nanoparticle analysis. He has also secured numerous research and project grants in AI and has led collaborative projects with Canadian and European universities.
Dr. Toma is a member of the National Steering Committee for AI in Palestine and serves as a reviewer and editor for several international journals. His initiatives focus on advancing AI adoption, research, and innovation at the university and national levels, building sustainable AI solutions, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in AI applications.
