An-Najah National University has achieved another major international milestone, further strengthening its global reputation for excellence in higher education and research. The University has been ranked 33rd globally among 1,603 higher education institutions in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, earning an outstanding overall score of 93.9 out of 100.


With this achievement, An-Najah National University officially joins the world's top 50 universities in the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings, reaffirming its position as one of the world's leading institutions in advancing education, research, and community engagement to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The University also recorded a remarkable improvement over the previous year, rising from =82nd globally in the 2025 rankings, with an overall score of 90.3, to =33rd globally in the 2026 edition, with a score of 93.9. This significant advancement reflects the University's sustained progress across its institutional sustainability performance and the success of its long-term strategic commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its mission.

At the national level, An-Najah ranked first among the eight Palestinian universities included in the rankings. Regionally, it placed second among Arab universities, underscoring its leadership within Palestine and its growing reputation across the Arab region and internationally for excellence in sustainability and societal impact.

The University's overall ranking was based on its performance across several Sustainable Development Goals. Its strongest performance was in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals—a mandatory indicator in the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings—where it achieved an exceptional score of 95.7. The University also delivered outstanding results in SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (88.5), SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (85.3), and SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy (84.1).

The rankings also highlighted the University's exceptional global performance across individual Sustainable Development Goals, where it achieved:

  • 4th globally in SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy 

  • =12th globally in SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions 

  • 13th globally in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals 

In addition, the University secured leading global positions in several other SDGs, including:

  • 20th globally in SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities 

  • 20th globally in SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production 

  • 22nd globally in SDG 13: Climate Action 

  • 24th globally in SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation 

  • 27th globally in SDG 1: No Poverty 

These achievements reflect the University's comprehensive institutional approach to sustainability, embedding its principles across teaching, research, governance, and community engagement. It continues to translate the Sustainable Development Goals into impactful initiatives, innovative programs, and practical solutions that create lasting value both on campus and in the wider community.

The University emphasized that this achievement is the result of the collective efforts of its faculties, research centers, academic and administrative units, as well as the strength of its local and international partnerships. Together, these efforts have enhanced the University's contribution to community development, fostered innovation, and advanced the principles of social justice, equality, climate action, and sustainable energy.
