An-Najah National University Tops Palestine in RUR World University Ranking 2026
An-Najah National University has achieved a new global milestone, adding to its growing record of success in international rankings by securing first place in Palestine and 329th globally in the Round University Ranking (RUR) World University Ranking 2026, marking an outstanding achievement in the University's first-ever participation in this prestigious global ranking.
This accomplishment is particularly significant given that it comes from An-Najah's inaugural participation in the RUR ranking. In the 2026 edition, four Palestinian universities were included in the ranking, with An-Najah emerging as the highest-ranked institution nationally, confidently securing the top position in Palestine within a global ranking that evaluates universities through a comprehensive set of quantitative performance indicators.
An-Najah University was ranked 329th worldwide and demonstrated strong performance across several key indicators. The University achieved 50th globally in International Diversity, 505th globally in Research, 206th globally in Teaching, and 889th globally in Financial Sustainability.
The International Diversity indicator stands out as one of the University's strongest areas of performance, placing An-Najah among the top 50 universities worldwide in this category. This achievement reflects the University's expanding international presence, growing academic and research partnerships, and its ability to build meaningful global connections from Palestine. The University's strong performance in the Teaching indicator also highlights the quality of its academic environment, the excellence of its faculty members, and its ongoing commitment to enhancing the student experience and improving educational outcomes.
The significance of this achievement lies in the methodology of the RUR ranking itself. Unlike rankings that rely heavily on academic reputation or employer perception surveys, RUR is based primarily on measurable quantitative performance indicators covering teaching, research, internationalization, digital presence, and financial sustainability. Consequently, An-Najah's advancement in this ranking reflects genuine institutional performance and sustained efforts to strengthen its educational, research, and international engagement ecosystems.
The University administration emphasized that this accomplishment represents far more than a position in a global ranking. Rather, it is the outcome of collective effort, a clear institutional vision, and a powerful affirmation that Palestinian universities are capable of competing successfully on the global stage despite the challenges they face.
Prof. Waleed Sweileh, Dean of Scientific Research and Director of the Academic Rankings Unit, noted that this achievement will serve as a catalyst for continued development, particularly in the areas of scientific research, citations, graduate studies, international partnerships, and institutional sustainability, in line with the University's vision of becoming a leading Palestinian university with a meaningful global impact.
Through this achievement, An-Najah writes a new chapter in its success story, demonstrating that ambition, when guided by hard work and a clear strategic vision, can be transformed into global recognition. The University's strong debut in the RUR ranking further reinforces its position as a leading higher education institution in Palestine, committed to strengthening its presence in international rankings and expanding its academic, research, and societal impact at the local, regional, and global levels.
