Workshop Concerning the Development of Our National Products' Quality

A workshop about the development of national products quality was held at the Korean Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence (KPITIE) at An Najah National University’s New Campus on Tuesday, 17th of November, 2009. The workshop was organized by the Palestine Standards Institute and under the patronage of the National Aluminum and Profile Company (NAPCO) and in celebration of World Quality Day.
Among those who attended the workshop was An Najah National University’s President Prof. Rami Hamdallah, Dr. Hazem Al-Shunnar, General Director of the Palestine Standards Institute and Dr. Anan Anabtawi, General Director of the Aluminum and Profile Company (NAPCO) in Palestine in addition to many other experts in the field of quality.
Prof. Rami Hamdallah spoke about the importance of achieving quality for health and safety issues in the various fields of production and industry. He also suggested a number of procedures that could be followed in order to achieve quality in production such as the Good Manufacturing Principle (GMP) that must be followed by production companies, the need to educate consumers about local and international standards on quality assessment, and finally, the importance of taking people’s health into consideration when deciding to market a specific product or service.
Dr. Al-Shunnar spoke about the role of quality in the national economy and the different quality development experiences that other countries have achieved. He also stressed the importance of educating people about the importance of quality in day-to-day life. Furthermore, he spoke about Palestinian industries and mentioned that 200 factories in Palestine have been granted the Quality Award. Other participants said that achieving quality in industry is a very important issue in supporting the industrial sector.
