Volunteers Participating in the International Volunteering Camp Visit Hebron
The volunteers in the international volunteering camp which is organized by the International Youth Exchange Program (Zajel) of the Public Relations Department at the University visited Hebron and its Old City on June 28th 2010. The visit aimed to familiarize the internationals with the difficult social, economical, educational and living conditions that the Palestinians experience because of the Israeli occupation.
Upon their arrival to the city, the volunteers were taken on a tour around the city where they were introduced to Hebron's most important and historically significant sites. Mr. Waleed Abu Halaweh, the Public Relations Director at Hebron's Old City's Rehabilitation Committee, guided the volunteers on a tour to the Tomb of Patriarchs (or Haram Al-Ibrahimi) where he explained to them the various restrictions that are imposed on the inhabitants of the city which limit their movement and contact with the outer world.
He also illustrated to them the different activities and programs that the Rehabilitation Committee carries out in order to support the locals and protect the valuable and historical sites in the city.
The visit came as part of many visits that aim to familiarize the internationals with the many significant sites and cities in Palestine and educate them about the harsh situations that Palestinians face everyday under occupation trying to protect their cities and families.
