In co-operation with the Local Child Association in Al-Faraa` refugee camp, the Community Service Center, CSC, at An-Najah National University, organized a 'Day for Fun' for children at the Center of Young Leaders of the Martyr, Salah Khalaf. Many activists of katakeet Theatre and CSC volunteers facilitated artistic and fun activities for the children such as plays, races, drawing on faces, clown performances, and a variety of games. The ceremony, which was full of interaction between children, teachers, and CSC volunteers, lasted for three hours and it was attended by three hundred children.
The 'Day for Fun' was part of an initiative by the Local Child Association. Mr. Zeiad Zaid, the Director of the Steering Committee of the association, said that this collaboration was based on the convergence of goals between the association and CSC. In addition, he appreciated the efforts of the university and its volunteers towards working on reaching social groups that suffer from the consequences of the siege, of which children are the group most affected.
A sociologist and one of the founders of katakeet Theatre, Ahmad Stati, was positive that efforts to make children happy are truly a blessing. He asked for an increase in these efforts through further co-operation between social associations working in the field of childhood and psychological and social support. Mr. Sami Al-Kilani, the Director of CSC, appreciated the efforts of the volunteers who organized this activity. In addition, he hoped that this activity might be a symbol of further co-operation between CSC and the Local Child Association, especially seeing as the center is preparing to increase its activities in the near future. Shortly, current CSC programs will be expanded and new programs will be launched, the most important of which is the opening of a CSC mobile center. The mobile center will ensure CSC volunteers’ efforts will reach areas outside of Nablus with the goal of overcoming the siege and investing in the efforts of the volunteers of the university as well as volunteers in local villages and camps.
