Video Conference on Citizenship and Social Justice
In cooperation with the Social Sciences Department at Newcastle University and An Najah’s Academic Program for Involuntary Migration, a video Conference was organized under the patronage of the British Council in Nablus. The conference concentrated on social justice and citizenship. Speakers included: Professor Esteban Castro, from the Social Sciences Department at Newcastle University; Mr. Saed Abu Hijleh, Instructor of Environmental studies and Geopolitics in the Geography Department at An-Najah National University; and Mr. Samer Aqrouq, Director of the Academic Program for Involuntary Migration.
The Conference began with a word for Mr. Aqrouq who spoke about the importance of citizenship in a country like Palestine, Prof. Castro spoke about the balanced relationship between citizen and civic society organizations. He also spoke about equality, freedom, injustice and equal opportunities. Mr. Abu Hijleh spoke about social justice, its concepts, definition and the impact of religion and politics on it.
Following their talks, a discussion took place on citizenship and social justice, with speakers explaining their perspectives and answering questions from audience members in both Palestine and the UK.
