On Tuesday 28 January a delegation from the US Consulate in Jerusalem, Mr. Macon Phillips, Coordinator of the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) and Mr. Richard Buangan, Press Consul, along with other representatives of the US State Department, visited the American Corner at the New Campus library.

Mr. Phillips met with a number of the American Corner volunteers and University students, discussing the use of social media and digital engagement in making change locally and globally.

Mr. Phillips used an example from his professional life to highlight the role played bysocial media. He talked about working as an internet strategist for Obama’s 2008 elections campaign and the crucial role it played in securing Obama’s electoral success. He went on to be Director of New Media at the White House, in addition to working for the IIP.

The students and volunteers shared their thoughts on technology and social media, and how they can use it to communicate with people and the world.

At the end of the meeting one of the volunteers showed a short video he had made about the American Corner and its work and aims. It can be viewed on the American Corner Nablus Facebook Page.
