The University Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the Portuguese Representation
The University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah and Dr. George Torres Pereira, the Portuguese Representative to the Palestinian Authority signed a Cooperation Agreement on June 23rd 2010. President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs, Ms Ana Coelho, Deputy Representative of Portugal to the Palestinian Authority as well as Ms Mikaela Miranda, teacher of Portuguese at the Languages Center at the University also attended the meeting.
According to the agreement, the University will start offering courses to teach Portuguese to its students and will provide them with expert teachers and advanced instruction programs for this purpose. Prof. Hamdallah mentioned that this step will encourage contact and understanding between Portuguese and Palestinian students as well as cultural exchange.
During the meeting, both sides discussed issues related to joint cooperation as well as academic and cultural exchange. Prof. Hamdallah emphasized that Palestinians are deeply concerned with developing their society and achieving more in the filed of education and knowledge. Dr. Pereira commented by saying that Portugal is concerned with teaching Palestinians Portuguese and supporting academic exchange between the two countries. He also added that this agreement will not be the last stating that cooperation between the different Portuguese and Palestinian educational institutions will continue.
Dr. Pereira visited the New Campus where he was introduced to the new facilities that have been opened recently such as the new library. He also met with the volunteers in the international volunteering camp and had discussions with them concerning the activities and programs they carry out.
