On July 25th 2010, the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, headed a delegation that consisted of a number of academic and technical staff to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus where he met with the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr. Fathi Abu Mughli. Attendees also included, Dr. Ghassan Shakaa, Member of the Executive Body in the Palestinian Liberation Organization in addition to employees and workers in the Ministry of Health.

The delegation was received by the Minister along with Dr. Na'eem Sabrah, General Director of Hospitals and Dr. Wa'el Sadaqah, Medical Director at Rafidia Hospital. The delegation visited the different parts of the hospital such as the Children's Ward, Nursery Unit, Burns Section, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Rooms and others. Dr. Sadaqah explained to the delegation the various projects that the Palestinian Ministry of Health is planning to improve and renovate several parts of the hospital. He also added that the hospital has gone through several development stages and now has 8 emergency rooms. It has also expanded the burns unit which has a capacity of more than 11 beds. Other parts of the hospital are under construction and new wards will be added soon.

After the visit, a press conference was organized in which Dr. Abu Mughli spoke about the cooperation between the Ministry of Health and An-Najah. The University has played a major role in developing the hospital's medical services through holding training courses and workshops on different topics such as emergency, and family medicine, training of doctors and the establishment of the National Teaching Hospital which will change the way medical services are delivered to the people. He also thanked Prof. Hamdallah for his continuous concern and support of the health sector in Palestine which is evident through the establishment and development of many medical centers and departments at the University such as the Faculty of Human Medicine and the Forensic Institute.

On his part, Prof. Hamdallah expressed his admiration at what he has seen during his visit to the hospital. He said that the hospital has reached a high degree of development in terms of the quality and quantity of medical services it delivers to the patients. He also emphasized that the relationship between the University and the Ministry of Health is a complementary one which aims to serve the Palestinian society and provide it with the best of services and treatment.

Such a meeting reinforces the bonds of cooperation and coordination between the University and the health sector in general, which in turn helps in supporting health and medicine in Palestine. The conference also included a discussion session in which the attendees exchanged ideas and suggestions regarding the development of the health sector in the country and the planning for future projects that would support the different health and medical institutions in Palestine further.

After the conference, the delegation visited An-Najah National Teaching Hospital where they were introduced to the hospital's new wards, facilities and services. They were also familiarized with the engineering structure and the variety of advanced equipments and medical devices it contains which will help in providing advanced services to the patients.
