The University Participates in the 2nd EMUNI Research Souk 2010
On June 14th 2010, An-Najah participated in the 2nd EMUNI Research Souk 2010 titled "Living Together in the Multi-cultural Society" in which more than 19 universities from 13 different countries across the world exchanged ideas and discussed several issues via video conference technology. The conference was held in the Conferences Hall at the University's library at the Old Campus.

A number of researchers and scholars took part in the conference among them was EMUNI President, Dr. Joseph Mifsud, President of Alexandria University, the Director of Alexandria University's library, the Director of Anna Lindh Institution, officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Egypt and many others. President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs, Dr. Sam Al-Foqahaa, Head of the Marketing Department at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and a number of students participated.
The conference mainly aimed to reinforce contact and communication between the different Euro-Mediterranean universities. It also targeted scientific research through encouraging students and professors to present their studies and papers at the conference and take part in the exchange of knowledge and experience.
University President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs delivered a speech on behalf of An-Najah administrative board in which she said: "I would like to extend our heartfelt greetings and our pleasure to be part of the 2nd EMUNI Research Souk that is transmitted live from 3 continents, 19 universities in 14 countries, all of which are united under one banner; EDUCATION! Education which is cross-cultural and cross-racial with this year’s theme: “Living together in the multi cultural society". She also defined the multi-cultural society by saying: "A multicultural society can be defined as a society or group of people from various backgrounds and ethics. It is common that over the world people live together with different nationalities, colours and different religious belief."

She further spoke about the different arguments and issues that are included within the idea of a multi-cultural society such as respect, tolerance as well as the advantages and disadvantages of such society. Similar to this was the idea of a multi-cultural education "Multicultural education relates to education and instruction designed for the cultures of several different races in an educational system. This approach to teaching and learning is based upon consensus building, respect, and fostering cultural pluralism within racial societies. Multicultural education acknowledges and incorporates positive racial idiosyncrasies into classroom atmospheres" said University President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs.
Dr. Ghassan Saffarini, Dean of Scientific Research at An-Najah, also participated in the conference with a work paper titled "Higher Education and Scientific Research in Palestine", in addition to other papers that were presented by other professors from An-Najah such as Dr. Jawwad Fatayer from the Department of Psychology at An-Najah, Dr. Salah Yasin, the Director of the Measurement and Evaluation Center (MEC), who presented a work paper titled "Developing a Strategic Plan to Rehabilitate Environmental Studies in the Higher Education in Palestine".
In addition to those professors, a number of students from the different faculties and departments at An-Najah also participated such as those from the Department of Business Administration at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

The EMUNI's headquarter is located in Slovenia and has a management board that consist of 11 members, mainly rectors of member universities such as the University of Paris, the University of Sofia in Bulgaria, Mary Coury University, An-Najah National University and others. EMUNI seeks to enhance and promote cooperation and exchange programs between the different Euro-Mediterranean countries in the field of scientific research and higher education. Through academic exchange programs and the organization of conferences, seminars and workshops it manages to enable different universities benefit from each other's experience and ideas on both sides of the Mediterranean.
