August 4th 2010. In cooperation with the Department of Architecture at An-Najah and the National School of Higher Studies in Architecture and Landscape of Lille, France, the Center for Urban and Regional Planning (CURP) at the University organized a workshop that continued for two weeks in which a number of Palestinian and French students participated.

The workshop discussed the architectural and urban landscape in Nablus through conducting a diagnosis of the current situation and creating proper solutions and suggestions for the architectural problems in the city.

After two weeks, the workshop was concluded in a celebration that was organized at CURP's headquarter. Attendees included Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs, Prof. Jawad Fatayer, President Assistant for Graduates Affairs, Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ali Abdelhamid, Director of the Center for Urban and Regional Planning, Mrs. Losian Dilanson, Director of the French Cultural Center in Nablus and Mr. Giovanni Fontan, Director of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Program at the UNESCO office in Ramallah in addition to a number of professors, students and engineers.

In the celebration, Dr. Abdelhamid delivered a speech in which he spoke about the cooperation between the University and the National School of Higher Studies in Architecture and Landscape of Lille. He described this cooperation as being an important step which allows for more development of the students' skills and experience in the field of architecture and urban planning.

Mrs. Millani, the workshop's coordinator, said in her speech during the celebration that the workshop was supported by a number of French and Palestinian organizations such as the Generation Palestine Organization and La Drache Society in Lille. She also thanked the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, for his support and expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to the organization of the event.

At the end of the celebration, the workshop's supervising team presented a summary of the workshop's contents, the stages it went through and its outcomes. Those outcomes included a number of proposals for several projects to solve some of the architectural problems in Nablus which will be implemented by the CURP and Nablus Municipality.
