The University Organizes a Video Conference with the American Novelist, Jay Parini

In cooperation with the Public Relations Department at the University, the Consulate General of the United States in Jerusalem organized, on the 11th of February 2010, a video conference with the American writer, poet and novelist, Prof. Jay Parini. Prof. Parini was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania in the United States and was awarded a doctorate by the University of St. Andrews in 1975. He has been teaching at Middlebury College since 1982. Among his most famous literary works is his 2008 book "Promised Land: Thirteen Books that Changed America".
Attended the video conference was the Cultural Attaché of the American Embassy, Cynthia Harvey, a number of American Literature students, Dr. Nabil Alawi, the instructor at the English Department at the University, and others. The conference was held in the Conferences Hall at the Old Campus.
During the conference, Prof. Parini spoke about the history of the American Literature and its relationship with the Arab literature. He also pointed out to the importance of interaction between the two cultures and the contributions that Arab writers, like Mahmoud Darwish and others, have made in the field of Arab and international literature. At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Parini thanked the attendance and the University for organizing this conference.
