The University Organizes a Training Course on Industrial Calibration
23 February 2010
On February 23rd 2010, the Calibration Unit of the Scientific Centers at the University held a training course titled "Industrial Calibration in the Field of Standard Weights, Balance and Thermometers Calibration". The course included training lab technicians in the Ministry of Agriculture and researchers in the center for agricultural researches on how to calibrate devices and equipments in their laboratories.
Engineer Ra'fat Kitaneh, Director of the Calibration Unit and Quality Supervisor at the Construction and Transportation Research Center at the University, said that the course includes: thermometers and thermal devices calibration such as bacteria incubators, water baths, refrigerators, ovens and other devices. The course also includes calibrating standard weights used to check the performance of balances and calibrating the balances used in laboratories to prepare solutions or the samples that are put to examination.
Engineer Kitaneh also added that the course aims to educate lab technicians on how to check the performance of devices in a way that enables them to reflect all the errors and conditions affecting the performance of the devices and presenting them in the form of a number that allows the technician to decide whether a certain device is to be used or abandoned. And through using the identification of error in the measurement process, the quality level of the examination's results will be affected.
He further said that this course trains the technicians on calibrating devices to get the most accurate results and to build a right decision on this basis. It is important to mention here that the Calibration Unit is one of the scientific centers at the University and it is specialized in calibrating different devices that are used in the different production and service processes.
