 As part of the Fifth National Week for Poison Prevention, the Poison Control and Drug Information Center at the University held a health conference titled "Poison Prevention" on April 12th 2010 at the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence at the New Campus. The conference was held in cooperation with Nablus Municipality, the World Health Organization, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and a number of local companies and institutions.


University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, attended the meeting and delivered a speech in which he spoke about the important role that the Poison Control and Drug Information Center is playing in promoting awareness among the people regarding poisons, and poison prevention. He also mentioned a number of projects that the Center is planning to implement in the future. One project is based on measuring the level of lead in Palestinian children and examining their mental and neurological growth in cooperation with Harvard University.
Dr. Ansam Sawalha, Director of the Poison Control and Drug Information Center at the University delivered a lecture in which she spoke about the activities and programs that the Center has implemented in the last four years. She also explained the future project with Harvard which will have a positive impact on the health level in the Palestinian community.
The conference addressed a number of key topics that students and instructors presented that were related to health issues such as drugs at home, antibiotics and fast food. The participants thanked the University for holding such a valuable conference that sheds light on one of the most significant issues for the Palestinian people, which is health.
