On Thursday, March 29th, through the generous support of the Korean Government and the UNDP, the university inaugurated the Korean Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence.  The opening was attended by H.E. the Korean Ambassador, Mr. Shin Kak Soo, the Korean Consul General in Jerusalem, Mr. Won Sup Park, Dr. Sameer Abu Eisheh, the Palestinian Minister of Planning, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the University President, and Dr. Nihad Masri, Member of the Board of Trustees, as well as many others representing local NGOs and associations.
The opening began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Nabil Alawi, the Director of the Public Relations Department, which was followed by a documentary concerning The Korean International Cooperation Agency, KOIKA. It explained the development projects KOIKA supports world wide. A speech by Dr. Nizar Awartany, Director of the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence, detailed the importance of the institute to the local community and also discussed its services which will help to improve the level of IT proficiency throughout the Palestinian community.
Mr. Shin Kak Soo, the Korean Ambassador, spoke about the friendship which binds the Palestinian and Korean people. He also expressed his hope to improve this relationship more in the near future.
Prof. Hamdallah, The University President, welcomed his guests and said that the opening of this institute is a very special achievement, amongst the many recent developments which have recently taken place at the university. He thanked the Korean people and the UNDP for such generous support.
A tour was organized through the newly inaugurated institute, where guests were able to see the facilities, the complex, and computers.
