In cooperation with the Welfare Association, the university opened the Center for the Visually Impaired. The opening was attended by the University President, the Coordinator of the Scientific Research Centers, the Director of the Public Relations Department, the Dean of the Faculty of Optometry, as well as the Head of the General Palestinian Union of the Disabled. Staff members from the Faculty of Optometry, as well as interested members of local institutions, were also in attendance.
Mr. Sufyan Mushasha`a, Representing the Welfare Association, spoke about their interest in serving the Palestinian community in general, and in particular the people with special needs. He assured everyone in attendance of their willingness to continue their support to both the university and the Palestinian community as a whole.
The center includes four computers customized for the visually impaired. Visually impaired students will benefit greatly from this project. Through the use of the center, and the resources therein, they will be able to conduct research, surf the net, and better communicate with others.
