On March 27th, An-Najah University hosted the Third Conference and Exhibition for the Palestinian Dental Association in Northern Palestine “Al-Quds Center” under the auspices of Dr. Fathi Abu Mughli, Palestinian Minister of Health.

Attendees to the conference included: An-Najah President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, Nablus Governor, Brigadier Jibrin Al-Bakri, Mr. Ghassan Al-Shak’a, member in the Executive Committee in the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Mr. Adli Yaish, Mayor of Nablus, Dr. Ibrahim Ghannam, Chief of the Palestinian Dentists, Dr. Amjad Qattawi, Deputy Chief of the Dentists Association, in addition to dentists in northern Palestine and a large number of other attendants.

In the conference, Prof. Hamdallah spoke to the audience expressing his happiness to host this big event at the University. He then spoke about dentistry describing it as an important profession that first appeared among ancient Egyptians and the Sumerians. He added that this profession has emerged and evolved in Palestine many years ago; however, the current economical situation makes it difficult for people to get dental treatment because it is very expensive.

He also pointed out that it is necessary to have a type of continuous coordination between the different dentistry associations and the various medicine sectors in Palestine. He called upon the participants to try to come up with recommendations that would serve the medicine profession in Palestine.

Dr. Ghannam on his part spoke about the importance of establishing cooperation and coordination between the different concerned bodies in Palestine in order to develop the medical level in the country. Dr. Qattani spoke about the necessity to help Nablus reclaim its status as Palestine’s main economical and medical center which can be achieved through collaboration between the different medical institutions to improve the current medical situation and help provide better medical services to the people. He also invited the participants to attend the Scientific Reconciliation Conference for Dentistry.

Al-Bakri on his part called upon all dentists in Palestine to assume their role in supporting medicine profession and encouraged them to address the officials in the Palestinian Authority to ask for providing the adequate support to them and their work.

As part of the conference, Prof. Hamdallah, Dr. Abu Mughli and Dr. Ghannam inaugurated an exhibition for a number of medical centers that specialize in dentistry in Northern Palestine in which those centers displayed the latest dentistry products.
