He spoke about the importance of literature and the exchange of culture between different nations: "Through literature people are able to access other people's cultures and traditions". He called upon Arab thinkers and scholars to support Arabic culture, especially Palestinian culture. He highlighted the important role literature plays in preserving the identity of the Palestinians and the history of their country, preventing others from eliminating or suppressing the culture.
Dr. Ritu Menon, the co-founder of Kali for Women, (one of India's oldest feminist press) and Founder-Director of Women Unlimited that published many studies on women, delivered a speech in which she expressed her pleasure at being in Palestine and being invited to participate in the workshop and to have the chance to speak and discuss issues with Palestinian authors and professors. She also spoke about her books, particularly: ‘Borders & Boundaries: Women in India's Partition’ in which she explained the difficulties that her family experienced during the partition of India in 1948. Her book particularly discussed the difficulties faced by women at that time.

This was followed by Ms. Ahdaf Soueif who delivered a speech in which she talked about her different books and novels, including ‘In the Eye of the Sun’ and the ‘Map of Love’ which was shortlisted for the 1999 Man Booker Prize and was translated into more than 21 languages.
