 The Palestinian Center for Peace and Democracy (PCPD) held the 15th annual conference titled "Economical Independence as a Way to Achieve Political Liberation" on June 26th 2010 at Martyr Zafer Al-Masri Auditoriums at the Old Campus. Among the participants was Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Nablus Deputy Governor, Anan Al-Atira, Mr. Omar Hashem, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Nablus, Suna Arouri, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Center for Peace and Democracy, and Mr. Naseef Mu'alem, the Director of the PCPD.

Prof. Abu Eid delivered a speech in which he spoke about the importance of economy and the necessity for extensive efforts to be exerted in order to establish a strong and long-lasting national economy. He also stressed the need for establishing and maintaining cooperation and contact between the different Palestinian institutions in order to achieve this goal.

The conference witnessed a number of topics related to economy such as the reality and future of the Palestinian economy, the reality of Palestinian industries and the acts and laws that are enforced to support and organize them, how could economical independence lead to political liberation, unemployment among the Palestinian youth, and other related issues.

At the conclusion of the conference, the participants recommended supporting the national economy and the national industries. They called upon the different related organizations and institutions to cooperate and coordinate efforts in order to establish a strong economy that is able to cater for the needs of the Palestinians.
