Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the journalists and added that he greatly valued their substantial role in serving the country and the University. He explained that honoring the journalists highlights the importance of the Media as one of the means through which people can communicate and exchange each other's opinions, cultures and ideas. It is a key element in the cultural dialogue between civilizations and a significant tool that shapes the human behavior. Therefore, and in recognition of its importance, the University is planning to establish a Media Center at the New Campus soon.

Dr. Kittaneh mentioned that Media has a strong impact on the world's cultures and the public opinion. He also listed a number of the characteristics that the journalist must possess such as credibility, honesty, neutrality and objectivity.

At the end of the ceremony, a film that depicted the suffering of journalists and the challenges they continuously face while performing their duty was also presented. The journalists then thanked the University for this honoring and its continuous support of Media in Palestine.
