On September 6^th 2010, a workshop on the Emerald electronic database was organized at the Conferences Hall at the Old Campus's library. The lecture was administered by AMEA Foundation's Chief of Operations, Mr. Eric Broy. AMEA is specialized in hosting and web publishing for numerous institutions and organizations around the world. IT provides multiple electronic services related to purchasing books, downloading, publishing and uploading.

 

Attendees included Dr. Hani Jaber, the Director of the University's library as well as a number of academics and libraries' directors at different Palestinian universities. Dr. Jaber explained that the purpose behind organizing such workshop was to encourage web publishing and motivate universities to work on increasing their publishing of web resources to cope with the international publishing standards. The workshop further aimed to familiarize the participants with the services that the Emerald Group Publishing provides and to ensure that they take advantage of all of its technologies and employ them in the development of databases at An-Najah.

 

Mr. Broy further spoke about the services that the Emerald website offers in addition to the books and resources it contains as well as the techniques used in publishing such as the PDF system. He also pointed out that journalism and media are among the most important materials that the website includes.

 

He also explained to the audience how to use the website in terms of search as well as how to take advantage of its various services and materials.
