An-Najah University celebrated the launching of the “NET KETAB” program which is organized in partnership with the Partner for Sustainable Development (PSD) in Palestine, in addition to the conclusion of the Woman’s Corner Project 2011 which is implemented by Nablus Municipality. The celebration was organized under the auspices of Brigadier Jibrin Al-Bakri, Governor of Nablus, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, and Engineer Adli Yaish, Mayor of Nablus.

Attendees included Mr. Jawad Abu A‘oun, Director of PSD, in addition to a number of invitees and graduates. At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the attendants and valued their interest in the event. He mentioned that the purpose of this unique partnership between An-Najah and PSD is to develop the technical abilities and skills related to information technology among the students. This was translated on the ground through the Think Tec project which was presented by the Competency Development Council at An-Najah along with the Net Ketabi program presented by the PSD.

Moreover, the President said this cooperation between the University and the PSD offers the students a chance to receive technical training through which they would be able to develop their skills in different fields such as communication, presentation, and self-confidence. Such training will last for 12 hours after which the student would buy a laptop that costs three hundred USDs less than its original price; the student would then pay the cost of the laptop on the basis of easy premiums depending on the student’s choice.

Prof. Hamdallah pointed out that the Program seeks to enable the student to build up his/her technical skills so as to be able to catch up with the rapid developments in the technical world of today. It is important to mention that the Competency Development Project seeks to develop the students’ technical skill, improve their skills in English, and develop their competency with respect to communication and decision-making skills.

Al-Bakri delivered a speech in which he spoke about the importance of the ”Net Ketabi” Project as being a developmental and societal project that is established on the idea of integrating technology into education. He added that the Project aims to establish the principles of sustainable development in coordination with the expert institutions in this field.

Engineer Yaish spoke about the Woman’s Corner Project that the Municipality implements which seeks to support women and their development in Palestine. The Woman’s Corner Center carries out a number of activities and training courses that focus on handicrafts.

Mr. Abu A’oun spoke about the Net Ketabi project which aims to develop the technological skills of school and university students through providing the netketabi device and introducing the students to the 21st century’s skills that include analysis, scientific research, self-development, communication skills and others through Think Tec courses.

During the celebration, a documentary about the Net Ketabi and Woman’s Corner projects was screened. At the end of the event, Prof. Hamdallah, Brigadier Al-Bakri and Engineer Yaish were honored with Appreciation Shields in recognition of their efforts in the mentioned projects.
