At Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Theatre, An-Najah National University and the French Consulate opened the new cinema which has been graciously funded by the French Consulate. The cinema projector will enable the University to show local, Arab and International films and documentaries in a city that has been lacking such cultural events for two decades.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Consul General of France, Alain Remy, the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the Delegation of the French Consulate, and members of the French Cultural Center in Nablus. Hundreds of citizens, students and the university faculty members were also in attendance.
Prof. Hamdallah said the opening of the cinema is considered one of the important achievements which will help narrow the gap in communication between nations. Such films help strengthen the understanding of cultural and social values. He thanked the French Consulate for its continuing support and spoke about the Palestinian students who were granted scholarships to study in France as well as  graduates from French universities who are now working at the university and those who are coming back from France after finishing their studies. He added that there will be further cooperation in the field of First Aid, in which a Master Program will be established in cooperation with Paris University 13.
Mr. Remy gave a speech in which he also expressed the importance of the cooperation between the university and the French Consulate which donated the cinema projector that will help enrich the cultural atmosphere in the city of Nablus.
Mr. Ayman Al-Nimer, Director of the Radio Station, said that the Dolby digital surround sound system is one of the most impressive systems used in the world of cinema and that it was installed by French experts in cooperation with the Radio Station staff.
At the conclusion of the speeches, the Coral Film was projected, a film about the experience of Clemon Mathiew, a music teacher who encountered difficulties in teaching children but managed, in spite of all the difficulties, to produce promising musicians.
