The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process visits An-Najah
Prof. Rami Hamdallah received in his office today Mr. Robert Serry, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice University President for Academic Affairs, and University President Assistant for International Affairs.

During the meeting, Prof. Hamdallah briefed Mr. Serry on the various University's' academic programs and the history of University as well as its future plans for expansion including the construction of a teaching hospital.
Mr. Serry expressed his admiration of what have been achieved and the level of education offered by An-Najah University. He wished the University success and prosperity.
Afterwards Mr. Serry met with academics from University to speak about the role of UN in the Middle East peace process. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Serry urged both the Israelis and Palestinians to resume talks without delay. He said that the UN is leading the humanitarian effort to sustain the people of Gaza under conditions of great adversity. He noted that the UN is very active, politically and diplomatically, pushing all parties, and the international community, to work for a different and more positive path in the Middle East.
By the end of the meeting, Mr. Serry answered the questions raised by the professors concerning future plans to achieve peace in the region. In 2007, Mr. Serry was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, as the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and his Personal Representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian National Authority.
