The above seminar, organized at An-Najah, discussed the role that political parties can have in the registration process for the next Palestinian elections. The seminar was organized in cooperation with the office of the legislator Hussam Khader and was attended by representatives of the Palestinian parties, such as Amin Makbool for Fatah and Yaser Mansoor for Hamas, and some university lecturers including Dr. Raed Neirat, Head of the Political Science Department, Abed Al Sattar Qasem, Political Science Department, and Yusef Abed Al-Haq from the Economics Department. The event was chaired by Dr. Saqer Al-Jabali.

The seminar opened with a speech by Tayseer Nasrallah, coordinator of the Popular Committee for Solidarity with Hussam Khader, who is now detained in Hedarim prison. Nasrallah greeted the audience in the name of Khader and talked about the difficult circumstances Khader and the other Palestinian prisoners are living in.

The participants then discussed their vision for the coming Palestinian elections. Dr. Neirat mentioned the importance of political development and pointed to the obstacles that might face the election process, specifically Israeli violations. He then wondered about the political agenda for the elections and the body which will observe and control the election process.

Amin Makbool described registration for the election as a right, a popular demand and the only means for political change. Regarding the mechanism for registration he pointed to the pamphlet the movement published in September and encouraged people to register.

Hamas representative Yaser Mansoor talked about the motivation the movement has for participating in the presidential and legislative elections and mentioned the conditions they see as essential for their participation.

Doctor Abed Al-haq described the elections as a means for positive change in society. He also talked about the technical and legal conditions for the process, mentioning the difficulties that the election might encounter, the supervising committees and the rules regulating the event.

The last speech was given by Dr. Abed Al-Sattar Qasem who spoke about the causes of the low percentage of registration in the centers and the factors that might prevent the elections from taking place.

Finally, the discussion was opened to the floor, with the audience putting many questions to the participants.
