On May 27^th 2010, Dr. Ted Pekane, the South African Representative to the Palestinian National Authority, visited the University accompanied by several members of the South Africa Representative Office in Ramallah. The delegation was received by the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Emad Abd Alhaq, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education at the University, and Mr. Ala Abu Dheer, Acting Director of the Public Relations Department.

Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the guests and presented a description of the University, the academic programs it offers, the degree of development it reached as well as the role of the scientific centers in providing key services to the local society.

In addition to this, the President emphasized the importance of supporting cooperation between Palestine and South Africa, particularly in the academic fields and the exchange of students. He further praised the effort that the Embassy of South Africa carries out to support such cooperation and maintain close relationships between the two countries.

On his part, Dr. Pekane mentioned that cooperation between South Africa and Palestine will continue in the different fields of life and pointed out that his country is deeply concerned with pushing mutual relationships forward. He also congratulated the University for the ranking it received by the Webometrics which ranked it first in Palestine and tenth in the Arab world adding that such achievement indicates the degree of development An-Najah has attained over the years which gave it a pride-of-place position among other universities regionally and globally.

Prof. Abu Eid spoke about the importance of academic exchange between An-Najah and the different universities in South Africa through the exchange of knowledge, academic programs and experience for the purpose of creating a long-lasting relationship between the two countries.
