The People with Disability Care Office Participates in the First Palestine Innovation Festival

On December 12th 2010, the People with Disability Care Office at the University participated in the First Palestine Innovation Festival in which a number of students with special needs won a number of first ranks in the Palestine Contest for Innovation which the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and other institutions organized. Eleven students who are currently studying at the University participated in the contest and presented a number of innovations in the different fields of art, literature and music.
The art band that consisted of students with special needs participated in the art festival that was organized earlier on December 2ndd 2010 on the occasion of the International Day for People with Special Needs. Mr. Samer Aqrouq, the Coordinator of the People with Disability Care Office at the University, said that such participation aims to reinforce and support the integration of people with special needs into their society and emphasized that if people have the will they can do many things to better the life of those with special needs. He added that the University is working continuously to improve the life of those people and eliminate any barriers or obstacles that could impose challenges and cause problems to them.
Several students with special needs won various awards in different fields including graphic design, visual art, volunteering and others. By supporting this group of people and focusing on developing their potentials, their integration into the society becomes easier and more successful. Those people are a major constituent of the Palestinian society and their role must be emphasized; they are not less gifted as normal people, on the contrary, they sometimes enjoy talents and skills that surpass those of ordinary individuals.
By giving them their rights, supporting their ambitions and dreams and by giving them the chance to participate in the different social, cultural, political aspects of life those people will become effective contributors to the development of their country and will take their place in the building process of their own future as equally as of that of others.
