Alfonso Portables, the Spanish Consul General in Jerusalem, and Professor Rami Hamdallah, the President of An-Najah National University opened the eleventh Spanish Biennale exhibition for architectural engineering and urban planning on the 14th of November, 2012. This exhibition was organized through the joint efforts of the Spanish Technical Office of Cooperation in the Spanish Consulate General in Jerusalem and An-Najah National University and held in the chess yard of the Faculty of Fine Arts at An-Najah.

The exhibition included scores of paintings that reflect the advancement of architectural engineering and urban planning in Spain, as well as unique architectural projects presented in special and creative methods with the use of easy-to-construct and easy-to- dismantle tablets.

The Spanish Consul General in Jerusalem thanked An-Najah National University for hosting this exhibition and expressed its appreciation for the efforts of President Hamdallah, in developing the educational process at the University.  The consul also promised to provide the Department of Architectural Engineering at An-Najah with a collection of books on Spanish architecture.

President Hamdallah welcomed the Spanish guest and stressed the university’s interest in developing academic relations with Spanish universities. He added that the idea of setting up an exhibition is rather new and worth trying.  He also thanked the organizers of this exhibition.

Dr Iman Amad, Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering at An-Najah, said that the exhibition comes as a part of a series of exhibitions held in many parts of the world. She added that a lecture was organized as part of this exhibition in the department of architectural engineering under the heading: “Rapid Architecture”, in which the professor lectured a number of students from the department. Among the attendees were also the Spanish Consul General and An-Najah Faculty members.

The exhibition aimed at strengthening relationships between Spanish universities and the Department of Architectural Engineering at An-Najah. as well as introducing Spanish architecture to Palestinian students.
